Therapy for Men in Hudson Valley
with a Purpose-Driven Male Therapist

Therapy is a place to step out of survival mode and reconnect; with yourself, with others, and with the world around you.

Many of the men I work with come in carrying anxiety, depression, trauma, or addictive patterns that feel hard to change. They’ve pushed through, white-knuckled it, or tried to outrun it, but it always catches up.

In therapy, we slow things down. We start to see what’s really happening beneath the surface and build the inner steadiness needed for healing, clarity, and resilience to take root.

Therapy for men isn’t about becoming someone else – it’s about recovering what’s already there: your presence, direction, and capacity to live with purpose.

Why Men Choose Therapy

Many of my clients come to therapy after years of holding it all together – or holding it all in.

Common reasons men reach out for therapy

🧱
Feeling stuck, numb, or disconnected
🗣️
Anger, irritability, or emotional shutdown
❤️‍🩹
Strain in relationships or marriage
🛌🏻
Burnout, overwork, or loss of motivation
🫥
Difficulty expressing emotion or being present
💨
Anxiety, shame, or guilt that won’t resolve
🎊
Preparation for more success, freedom, and aliveness
🌅
Grieving, transitions, or mid-life shifts

You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. To benefit from therapy, you just need a willingness to look honestly at what’s happening – and to do something about it.

My Approach: Grounded, Purpose-Driven, Real

Therapy with me isn’t abstract or passive. We get practical.

You’ll learn how to slow down enough to notice what’s happening inside you – not just as a “mindfulness exercise,” but as a way to get your power back.

My work draws from:

  • Somatic and mindfulness-based therapy to integrate body and mind
  • Strength-based and trauma-informed counseling for resilience and repair
  • Relational work to build emotional intelligence and authentic connection
  • Wilderness-based therapy to uncover the mystery and magic of each moment
  • Coaching-style clarity work to align actions with purpose

I meet you where you are – whether that’s rebuilding after a breakup, navigating fatherhood, or redefining what strength means to you.

Why Work with a Male Therapist

Men often tell me they’ve struggled to open up in therapy before – not because they didn’t want to, but because they didn’t feel understood.

Others share the opposite: they open up more with women. They have close female friends, but little experience being emotionally honest with men.

Therapy with a male therapist can bridge that gap.

Working with a male therapist can help:

  • Normalize your emotional experience without judgment or shame
  • Talk openly about sex, anger, power, and vulnerability without worrying about how it sounds
  • Explore identity, purpose, and masculinity from the inside out
  • Experience a model of steadiness and accountability instead of perfection or performance

It’s not about “male bonding.” It’s about real, direct connection – the kind of conversation that actually moves something inside you.

Redefining What It Means to Be a Man

Therapy isn’t just about relief – it’s about rediscovering what you can offer the world. When we slow down enough to listen, reflect, and hold responsibility for how we show up, we create something far bigger than personal healing. We begin to redefine strength itself.

Our partners, children, and communities thrive when men are present, grounded, and emotionally connected. They need adults who are steady enough to protect and open enough to love – those who can hold conflict without collapsing, and model courage without aggression.

This work matters. When we grow as men, we build families that feel safe, relationships that inspire trust, and a culture that values empathy as much as action.

Together, we can show our children what wholehearted manhood looks like; embodying versions of fatherhood, partnership, and leadership that future generations will be proud to inherit.

Why work with a male therapist?

I’m Simon Abramson, LCSW, a male therapist in the Hudson Valley providing therapy for men seeking clarity, stability, and meaningful direction.

I offer therapy for men throughout the Hudson Valley, with in-person sessions in Kingston, NY, and secure online telehealth sessions available to anyone in New York state.

Sessions are typically just under one hour long, once or twice per week. We’ll start with a 15-minute consultation to see if it feels like the right fit. I accept several insurance plans and offer private-pay options.
